THE Ten Tors Orchestra and Choir will present their Christmas Concert at St Eustachius Church, Tavistock, on Saturday, December 17 at 7.30pm. This year?s festive offering will include the opening chorus of Bach?s Christmas Oratorio ? Christians Be Joyful, the Overture, arias and choruses from Handel?s Messiah, Corelli?s Christmas Concerto, Lehar?s Gold and Silver Waltz and Mozart?s opera arias performed by guest soloist, the Danish mezzo-soprano Lise Christensen. There will also be traditional carols with audience participation. Lise?s opera engagements have included Alisa, Lucia di Lammermoor for New Sussex Opera, Dorabella, Cosi Fan Tutte for Swansea City Opera, Francesca Zambello?s production of The Little Prince for BBC Wales, Madame Larina, Eugene Onegin for Clonter Opera and Meg Page, Falstaff for Stanley Hall Opera. She has performed throughout the UK. Her repertoire includes the St John Passion, The Music Makers, Handel Dixit Dominus and Messiah, Mozart Requiem, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle and Vivaldi Gloria. Simon Ible, conductor of the Ten Tors Orchestra and director of music at the University of Plymouth, said: ?This concert is for me always the highlight of the Christmas music season. ?St Eustachius is one of Devon?s largest and most splendid churches and always boasts a magnificent Christmas tree. ?This year?s programme is full to the brim with festive treats ? Christmas Oratorio, Messiah, the Christmas Concerto and a sparkling waltz . . . And to top it all a Danish princess from the frozen north,? he said.
