Lewdown v Dartington and Totnes

NEEDING 10 points to be promoted as champions, Lewdown won an important toss and asked Dartington to bat on a sticky wicket.

Ben Williams was straight into his stride, bowling with good pace and late swing, accounting for three wickets. Gibbs (1), Rob Squire (2), Jake Barber (1), Andy Vernon (2) and Ade Clements (1) assisted by a superb one handed catch by Ben Williams, quickly ran through the Dartington and Totnes line up.

Needing 79 for victory in 66 overs, the Lewdown response did not start brightly with three quick wickets falling. However, Ollie Brown, with some 600 runs under his belt this season, batted sensibly for 46 not out and was ably assisted by Devon U14s' player Jack Williams with 15no.

The target was reached with 43 overs remaining.

This was a great effort this season by a team consisting of four very talented youngsters, who will become first team players.

Captain Brenden Worth, announced his retirement after 30 years and was given a guard of honour when leaving the field.
