The first item was to choose a name for the WI from a list of suggestions made by members. A show of hands confirmed the name would be Tor and Tavy WI.
The speaker for the evening was Sue Hackworth who spoke enthusiastically about the interesting work of the locally-based drop-in cancer support outreach project, the Triangle Centre in Tavistock.
Five further women volunteered to join the new committee and the members were invited to suggest subjects they would like to pursue in the future — many varied ideas were put forward.
Tor and Tavy WI will meet every fourth Thursday in the month at Brentor Village Hall at 7.30pm. All are welcome.
The next meeting date is March 22 and the speaker will be Tim Sutton-Woodhouse from Medical Detection Dogs, talking about the training and welfare of the dogs who can save lives through their sense of smell.
