Plymouth University C 1

TAVISTOCK thirds travelled to Lipson in Plymouth on Saturday to take on a good young Plymouth University side. However Tavistock more than held their own in a match where hockey was the real winner.

Tavistock were missing a few regular players this week, including top goalscorer,  Andrews, but they coped very well. The side gelled well early on, creating plenty of chances. After 20 minutes the pressure paid off with Edwards producing a cool finish after good work by Richards down the left.

Great team play towards the end of the first half won a penalty flick. However the University keeper produced an outstanding save to deny Cowen. There was still time in the first half for Edwards to miss a chance.

In the second half, Plymouth University started to get their passing game together. Tavistock countered that with tenacity and work-rate, particularly Stanbury, Robson and Cowie in the centre of the park. However, somewhat unfortunately, the University side scored an equaliser when some 'pin-ball' inside the 'D' led to their player squeezing the ball home from close range.

The rest of the match was end to end, counter attack after counter attack, with both keepers producing good saves. Both sides putting in a massive amount of effort.

The game ended 1-1, a result which Tavistock will be happy with but they will be more pleased with the performance than the result as the team spirit was plain for all to see.
