THE generosity of the Tavistock community was came in for praise recently, as residents at the McCarthy and Stone retirement complex in Abbey Rise managed to raise more than £1,000 for charity at a coffee morning.

The residents' event, which included a large raffle, raised an incredible £1,052.46 for BBC Radio Devon's Air Ambulance Appeal.

Resident Joyce Coombes said: 'It was a great success. We were thrilled with the Tavistock people who donated so willingly, especially the shops, the market traders, Lidl, the Wharf and Fairway Furniture.

'So many people came together to help — it was a combined effort.

'Nobody knows when they might need the air ambulance and it's a local charity so we thought it would be good to support it.'

The organisers managed to gather 107 raffle prizes from various businesses and individuals and also held a cake stall and a bottle stall.
