JUBILEE fever is coming to Lamerton with plans for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations in the village boosted by a Tarka Country Millennium Award.

A mixed programme of events to celebrate the jubilee has been ensured thanks to a £4,000 grant in the latest round of Tarka Country Millennium Awards.

The focus of the programme will be events on Lamerton playing field on Monday, June 3, including the release of 50 golden jubilee balloons, a fancy dress competition, family sports and entertainment and a tea party. Commemorative jubilee mugs will also be presented to each household in the parish.

An evening hog roast and barbecue with a licensed bar is also planned, with ferret and terrier racing, live folk music by 'the Wreckers' and a performance by Lamerton handbell ringers. The evening will climax with a bonfire and firework finale.

A number of other events are planned for the rest of the weekend. On Saturday, June 1, Lamerton village hall is hosting a free jubilee dance with music by the Whiskey Thieves, starting at 8pm. A special service will be held at St Peter's church, Lamerton, officiated by the Rev Greg Stanton, on Sunday, June 2, commencing at 10.45am. On Jubilee day itself (June 3), there will be a mid-day peal of bells at Lamerton church.

Organiser Clive Small who won the grant for the celebrations with the backing of the Friends of Lamerton, said he was sure there would be something for everyone in the village to enjoy.

The Tarka Country Millennium Awards are led by the Tarka Country Trust and partially funded by National Lottery money through the Millennium Commission.
