WITH four of the 10 races completed, action is hotting up in the Tavistock Athletic Club's Grand Prix, following 22 members' participation in the recent Bere Pen 10K.

Still leading for the ladies is Ann Woodhouse with 30 points out of 40, but Becky Mingo is now hard on her heels with 28. Equal third are Jo Meek, Nicole Heryet and Sharon Daw, but they have only taken part in two races so far.

Evergreen Trevor Williams is still number one in the men's competition, and, having taken part in all four races and winning his age group every time, has a maximum 40; second is Pete Bazley with 30 and third, David Twine with 26.

There is still a long way to go, and with just the best scores from seven races to count, it will be some time before it becomes clear who is going to win. The club welcomes runners and joggers of all abilities, and, with five groups there is bound to be one to suit.

Meetings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.15pm in the Sports Centre at Tavistock College, but there are also sessions on Mondays and Saturdays plus a Sunday run programme.

Prospective members can come to the club three times before being asked to join.
