FOR the third year running, due to the popularity of the event, Lydford Gorge is opening its doors to the emergency services on Dartmoor to showcase their work to the public. Members of the public can visit the gorge for free on June 22 for the Safety on Dartmoor day. The event aims to give the public a chance to meet, talk to and learn about all the various organisations that have a specific role in making Dartmoor a safe and enjoyable place to visit. The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, Dartmoor Rescue Group and Camel's Head Rescue will be among the organisations taking part in the day as well as Dartmoor National Park Authority rangers and volunteers, National Trust rangers from Lydford Gorge and the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. The event takes place from 10am to 5pm and no booking is needed.
