OKEHAMPTON Ladies' A tennis team have made a promising start to their season in Division 2 of the Exeter and District Tennis League with two narrow home victories.

Playing host to Sidmouth in their first match they ground out a win by 6 sets to 5. Angela Herrod-Taylor and Julia Moysey split the first two sets with the Sidmouth second pair before edging the decisive championship tie-break by 10 points to 8. They then went on to dispose of the Sidmouth first couple 6-1, 6-4. Beth Carter and Jackie Jarvis played two closely fought matches and were unfortunate to lose both in championship tie-breaks.

In the most recent fixture against local rivals Chagford Angela and Julia, and Beth and Jackie both chalked up straight sets against the visitor's second pair. Neither Okehampton pair could overturn Chagfords' strong first pair but Jackie and Beth playing some fine tennis, managed to steal a vital set.

This proved to be decisive regarding the overall match result as Okehampton won the tie by 5 sets to 4.
