SOUTH Tawton Primary welcomed back Roy and Ann Mallett last week to present the school's brand new Citizenship Cup.
Roy and Ann have had links with South Tawton Primary for almost 40 years — their two children Debbie and Steven attended the school, as have their five grandchildren.
As part of their golden wedding anniversary celebrations, Roy and Ann collected donations for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and toward the new cup for the school.
The trophy will be presented to a new pupil each term to celebrate their hard work in improving the school environment and the lives of those around them.
The first recipient of the cup was Year 6 pupil Josh Stickland. Roy and Ann presented him with the trophy during a special assembly last Wednesday.
Josh is one of the captains of the school house team the Vikings, and assists with activities before school in the mornings.
Headteacher Heather Poustie said: 'Josh is a worthy recipient of the prize. He has taken his role as team captain for the Vikings very seriously, and has tried to build team spirit.
'He helps out with activities in the morning when things can get very chaotic.
'He has also won the prize because of the way he talks to others, both pupils and teachers here. He is polite, speaks well and is a very good school citizen.'
Josh was modest about winning the prize: 'I'm speechless. I thought it might be someone from Year 6 who won the prize, but I didn't think it would be me.
'It's great, I'm really surprised. Lots of other children across the school do a lot of good things, so I'm really happy to win.'
