IN the dairy goat marquee udder inspections started as early as 6.30am, but that was par for the course for Sourton based goat keeper, Margaret Ford, and her three-year-old award winning British Alpine goat. Both seemed to be keeping their cool under the intense 14 foot roof of the straw covered tent. They were joined by a wide variety of breeds from the British Alpine to the British Toggenburg. The main prize is given for quality and quantity of milk, with consideration given to how long since the goat last kidded and their age. Goats can only start kidding at two-years-old. Margaret began coming to the Devon County Show more than 40 years ago and is a regular entrant with her animals in local shows.
