A FAMILY of giants will be at large in Tavistock next month with the storytelling group Raventales, to host a big evening of stories and songs suitable for children and families.
The giants have toured a number of towns and villages in West Devon this summer and are at North Tawton Primary School grounds at 7pm, tonight (Thursday).
They will be returning to the area on Saturday, August 24, to join in the Balloon Festival activities in Tavistock.
Baby Tavy travels by giant pram pushed by her father, Wistman. Being a giant baby, the pram is rather on the large side. Mother Bellever walks alongside to make sure her noisy offspring does not get too flustered because when Tavy cries, anyone standing within several feet is likely to get wet.
At the end of the evening, the audience will be invited to sing the giant lullaby, hopefully to send the baby to sleep.
The giant perambulation is being staged by HUGE — Highly Unusual Giant Enterprises — based in West Devon, comprising storytellers, makers, giant-builders and performers.
The events are free although a collection will be taken for the Bramble Baby Unit, at Wonford Hospital in Exeter.
The project has been sponsored by Barclays rural regeneration fund, Awards for All, ARTlife, West Devon Borough Council and Dartmoor and Exmoor National Park Authorities.
