UP to 120 local tradesmen could be recruited to work on a construction project in Okehampton.

Work on new homes off Exeter Road started last week, with the scheme by Linden Homes providing 234 houses with a mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes.

Site manager Glen Hilton grew up in Lydford. Having started as an apprentice carpenter with Linden Homes 14 years ago, he went on to train at Plymouth College in site management, with support from the developer.

Glen and his production team will expect to recruit up to 120 tradesmen, with the majority being sourced from the local area, for the duration of the project that is expected to be completed in winter 2018.

He said: 'Ours is very much a people business and I'm looking forward to bringing new life to the town that benefits an area that I've grown up in.

'We will strive to ensure that all works are carried out with due respect to residents, as site neighbours, and aim to complete as efficiently and swiftly as possible. We intend to keep residents informed of the works.'
