Tavistock U15s 10

Newquay U15s 5

Tavistock did not start well and allowed the strength of the Newquay forwards to dominate. Within five minutes they were over for a try. With fearless tackling from Lauren Dawe, Rosie Tidball and Toni Hoare, Newquay were unable to add to the scoresheet.

A half-time pep-talk brought Tavistock out firing on all cylinders, and Erin Midson-Holmes made a telling run to score under the posts to equalise the score. The experience of Ali Huntley and Ami Neave then galvanised the team and slowly the Tavistock girls got on top. They were rewarded for this pressure by a try two minutes from the finish, by Fiona McCall, to narrowly win this encounter. Tavistock player of the match was scrum half Florence Rodgers.

Tavistock controlled this match from the second minute until two minutes before the full time whistle. Before and after this Exeter managed to slip in two tries to win by the conversion of one of the tries. Within a minute Exeter passed the ball to one of their centres, who scored under the posts. From that moment, she was marked and never managed to get away from the tackles of the Tavistock line.

Rosie Tidball, Bronwen Rundle and Katy Bull stopped all Exeter attacks but it was in the forwards that Tavistock also excelled. The front row who included, Teresa Brown, Alice Govier, Erin Midson-Holmes and for a time Katy Bull gave the Exeter front row a torrid time with several heels against the head.

The domination soon paid off with Alice Upcott, crossing the line. Then deep into the second half Fiona McCall tore out from the melee to break several tackles and race 50 meters to the line to take Tavistock into the lead.

From the restart, Exeter put pressure onto the Tavistock line. After several scrums and line-outs close to the Tavistock line, Exeter scrambled over for the winning try.
