A TEN-YEAR-old girl was found cold, scared and knee deep in a bog after she went missing for nearly three hours during a school trip at Burrator last Wednesday. Jodie Upton-Webb, a pupil at Prince Rock Primary School, Plymouth, was found by Dartmoor Search and Rescue members, after she had gone missing around 3.20pm. The children had been taking part in orienteering and after a game of hide-and-seek, Jodie could not be found. She had been missing for about 30 minutes before police were alerted. Officers from Tavistock, Okehampton, Ivybridge and traffic patrol from Plymouth attended, as did 50 members from the Dartmoor rescue groups from Tavistock and Plymouth. The police helicopter also scoured the area around Sheepstor. At about 6.30pm Kevin Brown of the Tavistock branch of the DRG, and colleague Andy Hodge, were approached by a man who said he could hear a child crying. The DRG members followed the cries, and found Jodie nearby just as darkness fell. She had strayed into a boggy area and was trapped up to her knees in mud, about a kilometre from the arboretum close to Narrator Brook. She was taken to Norsworthy Bridge where she was re-united with her father. Tony. A spokesperson from the Devon and Cornwall Police said: 'Given the weather conditions and circumstances this could well have ended up as a tragedy. 'It is only one week since the anniversary of the Ten Tors training team tragedy at Okehampton. 'Officers and DRG members were particularly moved by the number of offers to help search from members of the public, either those who lived locally such as farmers, and members of the public visiting the area.' Police and Dartmoor rescue groups expressed thanks to those who volunteered their services and passed on their local knowledge. An investigation has since been launched by Prince Rock Primary School into the incident.
