THE first Tavistock Skate Jam will be all ready for take off tomorrow (Friday) at Tavistock Skate Park.
Open to anyone who has an interest in skateboarding, BMXing and inline skating, the event is being hosted by the Skate Warehouse on behalf of West Devon Borough Council, and supported by Tavistock Youth Café and Okehampton Community Recreation Association (OCRA).
The Skate Jam will become an annual event aimed at raising the profile of street sports competition in the area.
There will also be a demonstration at the park of 'Street Surfing', a new sport to hit West Devon with clubs being set up at Tavistock and Okehampton Colleges and Princetown Village Centre.
Hannah Colston, West Devon Borough Council's sports development officer, said: 'The Skate Jams that have already taken place in Okehampton and much of the South Hams have been very successful, so I am keen that we keep this going.
'It is a fantastic opportunity for those that spend endless hours at the parks to show off some of their skills, and the Skate Warehouse guys always ensure a safe and fun event for all.'
Registration for the Tavistock Skate Jam will take place on the day at 4pm. First aid cover will be provided by St John Ambulance and refreshments will be available at Dawns Café.
All those wishing to take part are reminded that helmets must be worn at all times on the park.
