RUNNERS are grabbing their training shoes and gearing up for the third annual Ruby Run between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy which takes place next weekend. Following the great success of the last two races, organisers are hoping for another big field for this year?s event, with more than 100 entrants already confirmed to take part. The 13-mile Ruby Run was launched in 2003 and alternates its start and finish towns each year. This year, runners will set off from Hatherleigh on Sunday, June 12, running through the picturesque Ruby Country to the finish at Holsworthy. As well as the main half-marathon, there will be a mini version ? a one-mile fun run for families and children. There will be music along the way to lift the runners? spirits, with Hatherleigh Silver Band playing at the start of the event before heading off to join Holsworthy?s band at the finish, and live jazz played on the balcony of the Bickford Arms. Stalls and street entertainment will keep the crowds in Holsworthy?s main square occupied, while face painting and children?s fun activities will be available in Stanhope Park, Holsworthy, before the fun run gets underway. All cash raised this year will be donated to Holsworthy and Hatherleigh Town Bands and the Devon Air Ambulance. Runners and walkers have until the day itself to enter ? application forms are available from race entry secretary Carole Smith on 01837 811266.
