POLICE are appealing for witnesses following the theft of more than 325 geese being brought on for the Christmas market. Between 3am and 6am on Monday, intruders broke into a barn in the Crockernwell area and stole approximately 325 geese, which would be expected to fetch around £12,000 in total. The geese were slaughtered on site and removed from the farm. A dark coloured Ford Maverick/Nissan Brava with a black truckman top was seen in the area at the time the crime was committed. Police are asking for anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area at the time, to get in contact and for any suspicious sales of geese to be reported to them. Det Cons Kim Brain from Okehampton CID said: 'This is also a reminder to those who are rearing livestock for the Christmas table to maintain their vigilance on their valuable Christmas produce.' Anyone with information is asked to contact Okehampton Police on 08452 777444, quoting the crime reference JO/06/1013.
