TAVISTOCK'S Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell led the Great Britain women's team in the first modern pentathlon World Cup event of the season last week, winning fifth place and achieving two personal bests.

The 27 year old was joined by Samantha Murray, 20, and Louise Helyer, 24, for the tournament at Playa Del Carmen in Cancun, Mexico.

The pentathlon consists of fencing, swimming, show jumping, and the now combined shooting and running.

After a disappointing swim, She managed to bounce back and impress the judges with her fencing and riding.

Heather won 26 of her 37 bouts for 1000 points in the fencing event before recording 1,180 for her riding. She also managed the fourth best time of 12 mins 9.61 secs in the combined shooting and running event, however Heather was having to make up time after getting the 14th best swim.

She finished on 5340 points, 136 down on German winner Lena Schoneborne.

Heather had not competed since last September when she came fourth in the modern pentathlon World Cup final in Brazil but has been in training, most recently in Hungary, focussing mainly on her fencing practice which seemed to have paid off.

Louise managed to score a perfect 1200 for her riding and recorded the fastest time of the day of 2.15.01 for the swim, while Samantha scored a personal best riding score of 1172.
