OKEHAMPTON'S new gateway garden, at the junction of Crediton Road and Northfield Road, was officially opened by chairman of Devon County Council Christine Marsh and Okehampton College pupil Callum White on Saturday. 

The garden is to symbolise the rural way of life central to the Okehampton area and is a project by Growing Our Future, which is based at the college.

It is intended to provide a place for people to sit and reflect at an important entrance to the town.

Plants and bulbs for the garden beds were donated by Country Lanes Garden Centre and Mole Avon.
