THE charity Tamwed, which links with and supports communities in South India affected by the tsunami, held a Global Party near Callington on Saturday. The successful event was organised to raise awareness about the lives of people living in poverty in other parts of the world and to raise funds for projects. Tamwed has helped set up small business units managed by women who produce clothes and other items which were for sale at the garden party. Tamwed?s volunteers have also raised funds for health, housing and solar energy projects in areas where families can live on under £5 a week. Much of the farmland in the coastal region is still unusable for food production due to salination by the tsunami. Rory Gilmore and bands such as Indigo Nights and Dad Dancing contributed to a day of food, dancing, music and other entertainments.
