AS you well know, the unwanted application by South West Water to commercialise the Burrator Lodge area was positively rejected by the Dartmoor National Park Authority last Friday.

On behalf of the Friends of Burrator I wish to thank most sincerely everybody who signed petition forms, wrote letters of objection to DNPA and those who attended the parish council meetings to demonstrate their feelings. Without your support we would not have succeeded.

Also the shops, post offices and public houses who displayed the 'Save Burrator' petition sheets. I hope that the thousands who enjoy Burrator as it is will be able to do so for many years to come.

I feel that credit should be given to DNPA and its members for their fair presentation and understanding of this very important case, bearing in mind that South West Water spared no expense in employing a large international company to represent them.

The DNPA gave a clear message that the commercialisation of this beautiful spot is unacceptable.

Surely the time has come for SWW to get the message and stop pursuing this matter. They are wasting the money we are paying in water rates in an endeavour to provide something that the overwhelming majority do not want.
