AS OKEHAMPTON enters a fresh phase with the forthcoming opening of the new hospital, the League of Friends Association will be dwelling on the past with an exhibition of photos and memorabilia at its annual meeting tonight (Thursday).

Taking place at the Conservative Club, the event, which starts at 7pm, will focus on the history of Okehampton Hospitals League of Friends and what it has achieved since 1964.

The only surviving founder member, Joan Pauley, said there were lots of old photos of the Castle Hospital before it was improved and documentation of the first project the league of friends funded. This was to clear away the cabbage patch to be replaced by a grassed area, trees and other landscaping to the tune of £500.

Since that time thousands and thousands of pounds have been raised by the group.
