POLICE officers will be making visits to Kit Hill on a regular basis after discovering a major dog fouling problem.

Sergeant Brett Phillips said a recent community clear-up at the beauty spot revealed more dog mess than litter.

'I was generally appalled by the amount of dog faeces,' he said. 'It was absolutely disgraceful and with that in mind I have made it a PACT (Police and Communities Together) priority to address it.'

He said he would initially be liaising with Cornwall Council so see if its environmental protection officers could look at ways of dealing with it but police officers would also be making regular visits to try and educate dog owners.

'If anyone is walking their dog without a plastic bag in their hand then they are pretty much guilty,' he said. 'If the educational approach does not work then we will have to look at prosecution.'
