WESTDEN will be running a series of exciting and interactive local food workshops for young people aged 14 to 19 in the West Devon area between October and November. Participants will get to prepare, cook, taste and find out more about their food and where it comes from. They will also have the opportunity to meet and work with local chefs including Peter Gorton of the Horn of Plenty, butchers and other producers as well as compiling a cookery survival guide for young people. Workshop co-ordinator Diana Lee said: ?We are hoping that the participants will become food ambassadors, spreading the word ? and actions ? of cooking to other young people, which is why the content will be decided by the group members themselves.? The events are being run by Westden to encourage young people to cook and eat more healthily using locally produced food and to support local producers and cut food miles. The first three sessions will be held in Tavistock on October 8, 15 and 29. Further sessions are planned for Hatherleigh, Gunnislake and Princetown.
