A LIFE-changing trip to India inspired Miriam Wakefield, a North Devon woman, to make ambitious plans to tackle the world's largest human trafficking crisis with her colleagues Nicole Robyn and Terry Eklund.
The women were so moved by the plight of victims they met that they have developed a plan to help some of the three million people affected by modern day slavery.
They have developed a partnership with the Crossover Foundation and the International Justice Mission to rescue, counsel, train and employ trafficked victims in the manufacturing of luxury handbags, clothing and accessories.
In February this year, against all odds, they managed to launch their Polished Pearl label at a glittering reception during London Fashion Week in the Royal Courts of Justice that helped them win the support of some of the industry's most influential movers and shakers.
They have just completed New York Fashion Week and Miriam will be speaking in Tavistock at the latest Taste and See meeting at the Terrace Restuarant on Monday, October 15 at 7pm for 7.30pm to tell of her amazing journey.
Tickets, £10 for two courses with a vegetarian option, can be purchased from Windsors café on Russell Street. Telephone 01822 616057. All women of any age are welcome.
For more information about Taste and See, which is organised by a committee represesnting the churches in the Tavistock area, phone Ruth Newman on 01822 616859.
