A SAFETY on Dartmoor event which last year drew in more than 1,000 visitors is taking place for the third year running on Sunday, June 22 at Lydford Gorge. From 10am to 5pm, visitors can enter the National Trust location for free, and enjoy what's on offer, as well as learn about safety on the moor's rugged terrain. In total there will be 21 attractions including the fire service, ambulance service, Devon Air Ambulance, the Ministry of Defence, the Dartmoor National Park and even a marching band. Landmark, from the MOD, which organises live firing on Dartmoor will be giving a talk on the safety measures it follows in regards to live firing, and is on hand to answer questions. As an added bonus, the public will have a chance to experience the 'drink drive simulator' to understand what would happen if you drink and drive. Fay Langston, visitor services officer for Lydford Gorge, said: 'Last year was a great success and fantastic day of fun for all the family. 'Come along and have a good day.' All who wish to attend should meet in the orchard area of the gorge. Use the National Trust's car parks to park your vehicle, but if full use the village car park, and a Park n Ride service will be in effect on the day. For more information call Fay on 01822 820320.
