Premier Cup quarter-final

Tavistock 1

Plymouth Parkway 2

THE cup holders? grasp of the trophy was finally let loose with this narrow defeat by their Carlsberg League opponents, but it was a controversial goal that decided the tie ? former Lambs striker Andy Bowker went past keeper Andy Meeds to put the visitors 2-1 up despite protests that he was offside.

Tavistock made the better start with James Cole testing keeper Dungey with a long-range effort hat he had to palm around a post and on 15 minutes they took the lead when from Cole?s corner kick Darren Babb rose to head home.

But the visitors responded and five minutes later were back on level terms with Bowker getting to the by-line to turn the ball back for another ex-Lambs player, Marcus Crocker, to lash it home from close range.

Babb was close again for the Lambs from a Cole free kick and Dungey did well to palm an effort from Lee Doncaster away for a corner with Bowker going close right on the interval.

The visitors took the game to the Lambs at the start of the second half as Meeds did a double save, first denying Liam Price then Bowker?s follow-up to keep the Lambs on level terms.

Then came the goal that was to settle the tie. But the Lambs threw on their subs to try and save the day. They thought they had drawn level on 80 minutes but were puzzled by an offside flag as Dungey carried Cole?s cross over the line into his own net.

The bitter taste of defeat was left in Lambs? mouths by the way they lost this game.
