Tavistock A 2
Duchy 6
TAVISTOCK fielded a somewhat scratch side for their first league game of the season, the first half of which proved a tight encounter. Duchy opened the scoring from a penalty corner within the first ten minutes — some five minutes after the home side replied, as John Barratt found the back of the neck from a Tavistock short corner. Duchy took the lead again with a field goal — and then Barratt again levelled the scores with a similar reply. Duchy went into half time with another to take it to 2-3.
During the second half, Duchy's superior pre-season preparation and fitness began to tell, scoring three more goals during this period. Despite this, the home side never gave and up and showed great fighting spirit.
Tavistock players of the match: Mark Wheatley and Ben Walshe.
