Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 3 Liskeard 1st XI 1 THE match opened with Tavistock dominating. Emma White and Lisa Butler worked hard through midfield and gave good support to the forward play of Robynne Honey and Julia Firth. Liskeard were under pressure but their goalkeeper kept them in the game as Tavistock struggled to find a way past. The odd time the ball was brought to the halfway line, Laura Stapleton and Sarah Barratt prevented any attack. This allowed Fiona Dunn and Zoe Viggers to push the attack up the pitch. The first goal was scored by Julia Firth, who took a dominant strike at the keeper. This lifted the team?s spirits and Tavistock started to raise their game. Judy Miller worked hard on the wing and was able to chase good balls down and feed them across into the D. From one of these, Firth scored the second goal as she went running into the D with her stick down and was able to slip the ball quickly past the keeper. In the second half Tavistock were a little disjointed but despite this were able to score again with Honey netting the third goal. The opposition were breaking through and Tavistock lost their structure slightly, resulting in Liskeard pulling a goal back. Goalkeeper Bex Creasy made some good calls and alerted the defence of any unmarked players. Dunn had a run up the pitch and was able to cross the ball into the D, but it was cleared before the attack could take advantage. Laura Armstrong fed some good balls into the D and Viggers made some brilliant block tackles. Tavistock Ladies 2nd 6 Callington 0 THE first home hockey match of the season started well with Tavistock winning the starting push back and creating a strong first run towards the opposition?s half with good passing between Kate Eadie and Emma Passmore. Strong, short passing accompanied by tight possession allowed the first clean goal scored by Sophie Bassett to give Tavistock a quick lead. Long passes by the opposition allowed Tavistock to steal the ball on many occasions and a quick midfield meant a second goal by Olivia Eadie. The third goal was scored again by Olivia Eadie who, in a perfect position on post, was able to swipe in a quick cross through the D from Emma Passmore. The second half saw a strong midfield with two new players, Rachel and Sophia Ott, preventing few balls from reaching the Tavistock half of the pitch. This enabled the hat-trick goal of Olivia Eadie and the fourth one for the team. A slighly more aggressive opposition in the second half was blocked by good tackles which included a new player, Ellie, playing brilliantly in her first match with the seconds. A further goal was scored by Sophie Bassett. Kate Eadie scored the sixth and final goal with a strong, hard strike. Player of the match: Sophie Bassett.
