MEMBERS of Tavistock Athletics Club recently visited the North Devon AC track at Braunton for two days of high quality competition in the Devon County Championships.

A scorching first day saw two first class performances from Richard Drage, winning both the 1,500m and 5,000m vets events.
Jimmy Hubbard, competing in the U13 age group, achieved sixth in long jump and narrowly missed a medal with a creditable fourth in 80m hurdles. Harry Wyatt continued to improve in the 80m hurdles, long jump and 100m. Karen Ballentyne rounded off a successful day for Tavistock by gaining first place in the vet ladies' 5,000m.
A complete change in the weather on Sunday failed to dampen the spirits of the athletes, with an in-form Adam Tofield performing well in the 200m and reaching the final in the 800m.
Jimmy Hubbard completed a successful weekend with a PB and silver medal in U13 shot.
The next event will be on Saturday at Plymouth AC Brickfields with the Toshiba Young Athletes meeting where Tavistock AC will undoubtedly be well represented.
