Tavistock Town . . . . . . . . . . 2

Saltash United . . . . . . . . . . .1

CONDITIONS for playing football were very difficult with a strong wind blowing across the pitch on a bitterly cold afternoon.

Players had to be alert and work hard to maintain control of the ball and despite some early attacking moves Tavistock went behind as a Saltash free kick was headed into his own net by Derbyshire.

Tavistock bounced back with a well taken goal by Bray following a Lyle corner 1-1 as both teams endeavoured to play good football.

Tavistock were awarded a penalty after Smith was brought down but the scores remained level as McCall's shot was saved. Webber had to be alert as Saltash broke through firing past the post and Smurden had to use his pace to prevent another dangerous attack.

This evenly fought match was finely balanced and after early Tavistock pressure at the beginning of the second half a mistake almost let Saltash in on goal. With Johnston pushing up the left wing pressure was increased on Saltash and a handball in the area allowed Coulston to score with a well placed penalty 2-1. Webber had to pluck a dangerous high ball out of the air but most of the play was now with Tavistock as Taylor replaced Bray on the right of midfield and Smith then fired wide.

Tavistock's defence of Smurden, Derbyshire, Kelly and Johnston had stood firm throughout and another win kept them top of the table.
