However, there were some outstanding individual performances that lifted the morale of those travelling runners.
In the Under 13 boys? race, Tom Lawson ran tactically well to move through the field to finish in a very creditable 2nd spot. Backed up by Jake Rendle with a solid 9th place and Matt McNamara-Waddington in 23rd, meant the U13 juniors will probably hold on to their 3rd place for the series.
In the senior men?s race Andy Vernon and Tim Bundy both made their cross-country debuts to support the depleted senior men?s team. The senior ladies? race saw Fiona Dunn improve on her last race position of 4th to move up to 3rd, with a strong determined run and final lap to close right in on race winner Revis Crowle.

Meanwhile preparations for this year?s Tavy 7 race being held on November 14 are all falling into place. Entries will be a record for Tavistock Athletic Club?s flagship autumn race. Always a popular event amongst runners from across the south west it is now looking like it will be a sell-out with the race limit being reached with over a week to go.
Race director Mike Youlden has been inundated with postal applications and fully expects to have to call time on entries any day now. ?Anyone who hasn?t entered needs to get their form in very soon,? said Mike. ?And before they do, they should check the club website for news about whether or not we are still accepting entries.?
Visit the club website: http://www.tavistockathletics.com">www.tavistockathletics.com ? or ring Mike on 01822 833127.
There will be no restriction on entries into the 1.5 mile fun run which takes place alongside the main race - entries for this are only taken on the day.
