DARTMOOR Folk Festival will again be filled with music, dance and family entertainment when it takes place at South Zeal this summer.

The festival, which welcomes visitors from far and near, will be host to an impressive line-up of acts from the folk world, performing alongside some of the best local entertainers.

The three-day event will also include craft displays, dances, a music hall, workshops, children's entertainment, plus a Sunday ramble and much more.

There will also be an increase in the new and exciting children's festival, which includes circus skills, storytelling, arts, crafts and music sessions.

The festival will have a dance step competition, one of the main traditions associated with the event, which will involve dancers trying to out step one another on a 15 inch square board to win a place in the competition's final.

It will be held on an old hay wagon and there will be a workshop at the festival to teach the basic dance steps.

There will also be a broom dance championship for primary school children.

The competition involves dancing with a broom, where children learn a series of moves at a workshop.

Publicity officer for the festival, Alan Quick, said: 'An action packed programme has been arranged and we are looking forward to a great festival.

'There will be three days of music, song and dance.

'The festival is one of the highlights of the summer on Dartmoor and it certainly should not be missed.

'Entertainment is arranged for the whole family and there are events to take part in or simply watch.'

The festival will be held from Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9.
