IT has taken a week to reacclimatise to good old Blighty. I was enjoying the jet lag - causing me to actually wake up before my alarm – but unfortunately by the time I made it home for early morning swimming, the positive effects had long gone.
The temperature change was not quite so positive. When I turned up to training in my running shorts and sleeveless top I soon realised that summer is over and the gorgeous blue skies are a little deceptive. As for driving I've forgotten how effective give way signs and roundabouts are, I don't think we should exchange them for horn honking just yet. I was tempted to nip down to Goosey Fair just to relive the Delhi road experience.
I've completed the first week of the new training block. After so many years I still get excited at the start of a new season, it reminds me of the start of the school year, all the gossip to catch up on, new hair cuts to admire, and new trainers to wear in. I think it's this excitement that has carried me through the first few days. Training has felt so easy, but I know my lack of fitness will soon be evident.
Continuing on from my media experience in Delhi, I paid BBC Radio Devon a visit on Saturday. I thought that offering my fresh homemade flap jacks would be certain to sweeten up the producer. Apparently a lot more is required. Once my baking efforts had been generously distributed amongst the hungry radio show guests, I was then sent outside to 'contribute' to the show. I hadn't realised musical talent was a requirement. I was the given the responsibility of playing the Surdo – known as the heartbeat drum – in the guest samba band. I'm now waiting to see if my cooking skills make up for my lack of musical talent!
