HAVING been born and lived in Tavistock for most of my life, I get fed up with constant complaints about 4x4s (Letters, June 29). As a market town with a high proportion of farmers and equestrians, 4x4s are essential for the transport of stock to market and horses to events, many of which are run for the benefit of charities, for example, Cancer Research. The Westcountry has one of the highest proportions of old vehicles in the country, and these cause far more harmful emissions than the modern 4x4. Surely one vehicle used for work and towing is more environmentally friendly than running two? Name and address supplied.
