I READ with interest an article about a permanent cinema in Okehampton. What a delight this would be and an improvement to the town and community. The trade that would be brought in via a cinema to pubs and restaurants would really boost the economy. I understand that the traditionalists in the town want to retain the market. I have tried to support the market, but rarely, apart from DVDs of classic films, have I found anything to tempt me. The stalls are sad and the merchandise generally very tired and unappealling. I really do not see how it can be a viable business for a stallholder, therefore do not understand the objections. We really do not need a fourth pet food supplier in the town (there are two pet shops and Mole Avon) when the community is desperate for facilities, especially with more housing proposed where the allotments were on Exeter Road, Yer Tiz and the London Inn sites. Let the people in the town have more facilities and encourage exciting and reasonable expansion which will retain the young people in the area, rather than losing them to big cities. I am fed up with my 50-mile round trip to Exeter/Tavistock to see a film when the community cinema is not showing. Hilary Sharp 27 Balmoral Crescent Okehampton
