A TAVISTOCK action group is urging people to attend an exhibition and public meeting in Plymouth tomorrow (Friday) which will detail proposals for the storage of radioactive wastes from nuclear submarines in the city.

Tavistock Peace Action Group fears this expansion to Devonport Dockyard will present new dangers to workers, city dwellers and to the region.

?Plymouth is already becoming known as the Sellafield of the south because of radioactive discharges into the Tamar, said the group?s spokesman Michael Lovejoy.

?This proposed ?nuclear scrapyard? role will present new dangers to the public and I strongly urge anyone concerned about this development to attend the event in Plymouth to make their views known.,? he said.

The exhibition in Plymouth Guildhall will take place between 2pm and 7pm and the public meeting will follow.

A representative from DML, who manage the dockyard and the MoD will be present.

Tavistock Peace Action Group is concerned about issues of justice and peace but also campaigns against nuclear weapons and the arms trade.
