YELVERTON Golf Club held its annual Guest Charity Day on Saturday. There were many competitors and many guests from local clubs competing. The weather was superb and a high standard of golf was played.
The father and son pairing of Bryan and Mark Blaber took the honours with an impressive stableford score of 47 points.
They achieved birdies on all par 3 holes and put the rest of the competitors in the shade.
More than £4,000 was raised and paid to the club's selected charities, whose representatives attended the prize giving ceremony in the evening to receive the cheques from the club captain.
The inaugural John Emerson Scratch Trophy was held at Yelverton Golf Club on Monday. The format was a 36-hole medal competition, and it attracted 33 entries. The weather was warm, with a firm breeze to test the players, and a high standard of golf was played. The winner after round one was Adam Bridgwater from Hurdwick Golf Club, with a 69, with 6 players in the chasing pack on 71.
Age and experience proved to be the deciding factor, and the winner, with a combined score of 141 was Graham Ruth from Tavistock Golf Club
The younger generation consisting of Scott Davey and John Thurston from Yelverton Golf Club, Paul Elliot from Elfordleigh Golf Club and son of Graham, James Ruth, were close behind on 142. The Emerson Trophy was presented by Colonel John Emerson, a club member of 77 years standing.
A new sponsor for the South West of England Winter Foursomes Competition has just been announced. Brittany Ferries has agreed to sponsor this prestigious competition, which attracts competitors to Yelverton Golf Club from all over the area.
There are separate prizes for professional and amateur players, with an attractive first prize of £1,000 and £400 respectively.
The competition starts on October 14 and entries should be with the secretary, Yelverton Golf Club,by Tuesday September 25.
