PRODUCERS from Okehampton Farmers? Market say they are looking forward to their move outside, and hope their spot in the centre of the town will pull in many more food lovers. Linda Davis, from Westlake Farm, who have had a stall within the monthly market for several years, said it would be a ?positive move? for the market to begin life in its new home in front of St James Church on Saturday, October 21. As well as most of the regular producers, five new stalls are being introduced. Among the new ventures joining the market are a fresh vegetable stall from Hallwood Farm Vegetables, at Petrocstowe, and returning by popular demand is Ark Chicken, whose Jason Wise supplies a number of top restaurants. There will be plenty of exciting produce to tempt people over the coming months said Linda, including ostrich burgers, Tarka Ale and even hand-made chocolates. Mrs Davis acknowledged the farmers? market had endured a long unsettled period resolving where it would be held, but said producers were determined not to dwell on that, but to look to the future instead. She said many of the other farmers? markets around the region were already held outside and there was room for around 20 stalls in the new location. Okehampton College Big Band, led by teacher Paul Smith, will be coming along during the morning to provide musical entertainment. West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox will also be visiting to support the event. The farmers? market ? which runs from 9am to 1pm ? will also be running a raffle with food vouchers prizes. Mrs Davis said the farmers? market was grateful to Devon Renaissance, West Devon Borough Council and Westden for grants to buy white and green awnings.
