Tavistock U11s finished the season with four matches at the Trevor Ward Foundation junior rugby festival in Paignton. Tavistock started well against hosts Paignton playing some of their best rugby of the season and eased to a well deserved 21-0 victory with Zak Brinkhurst and Charlie Charlton among the Tavistock scorers. The next game was the first of two against Sherborne. The Dorset side had a couple of huge forwards, but the Tavistock team battled hard with Ollie Straughan, William Slater and David Lloyd- Graeme outstanding up front. In a fiercely contested game Sherborne scored first and Tavistock were denied what seemed to be an equalising try. In the final group game Tavistock worked hard to break down Welsh touring side Tonrefrail. Stealing the ball at a maul Tom Jackman finished from 20 metres to give Tavistock the lead and with more surging runs from Charlie Charlton, Tavistock won through 21-7 to set up the rematch with Sherborne in the final. Tavistock attacked and came close to getting the opening score through Adam Williams' darting run. However as the pendulum swung Tavistock had to defend and sterling work in defence from Matthew Dobie, Barney Megicks and Jamie Brown kept the scores even at half time. The second half followed a similar pattern with Tavistock attacking strongly through Daniel Dobie and Charlie Carter, but again Sherborne attacked. With a late surge Sherborne crossed the opposition line and Tavistock went down to a 7-0 defeat. The boys had a tremendous day and were rightly congratulated by onlookers for their excellent team spirit and attitude to round off a very rewarding season.
