WEST Devon Borough Council is to give extra funding of £3,212 to help West Devon's Citizens' Advice Bureau cope with the exceptional demand it is facing due to the economic downturn.
The money will go towards continuing 'outreach' services in a number of more rural areas within the borough.
Cllr Mrs Margaret Garton, chairman of the council's strategies and resources committee, said: 'With the credit crunch biting, more people than ever need advice on a number of issues, many relating to their financial situation.
'We are well aware of the call on services such as the CAB, and hope that this grant will enable that help to reach those most in need.'
Barbara Osborne, of the CAB, said: 'The money from West Devon Borough Council allows us to continue with the outreach and visiting service until April 1, when other funding lines become available. We are most appreciative of this additional investment.'
