PARENTS of children with a learning disability in Okehampton will be offered a free advice workshop to help them plan for the future.
The event, organised by Mencap, will offer expert advice to parents of children with a learning disability to ensure the financial security of their children after their lifetime.
On October 5, at the Ockment Community Centre, North Street, a solicitor with specialist knowledge will hold the event, alongside Mencap, the UK?s leading learning disability charity. The information event, running from 12.30pm-3pm, forms part of a national programme, ensuring all aspects of leaving a legacy to people with a learning disability are covered. Information packs are also provided.
Every year thousands of parents of people with a learning disability contact Mencap for advice on how to leave money in a will without affecting their children?s rights to benefits or local authority funding. These parents want to ensure that money left by them will be used to provide extras for their children.
Seminar co-ordinator Liz Dean said: ?The ?planning for the future? seminar is an ideal opportunity for parents of people with a learning disability to get reliable advice about securing the future of their children. It?s about providing peace of mind.?
