Stuart Cox of Tavistock played at number 4 against Joe Gasan. Stuart struggled to get the court?s pace and lost the first game 9-2. He decided to change tack for a more patient game of a string of tight drives followed by a winning trickle boast. Stuart took the second 9-5 to level the match. Stuart now gaining in confidence won the next 2 and the match 3-1.
Next up was Colin Grice of Tavistock against Jason Hill of Tiverton.
After a number of short rallies Jason took the first game 9-5. The second game was a little different with Colin managing to hang in on the rallies taking the second 10-9. Colin now took the 3rd with relative ease 9-2. The fourth game proved to be a battle with Jason eventually winning 9-7 to level the match 2 games all.
It was all down to the fifth which after some early exchanges leaving the score even at 4 all it was first blood to Colin who took a number of decisive points to get an 8-5 lead and match point. From this point there was no way back for Jason with Colin taking the 5th 9-5 and a well deserved match 3 games to 2.
Andy Gauler at No 2 was against Sean Gunn. Andy?s tough approach left little hope for his opponent to settle into a rythm with Andy winning 3 games to 1.
Finally it was Jim Massey against Chris Reed. Jim, who has suffered from a lack of match fitness, needed to take the first game, but his opponent had other ideas and grinded a 9-5 win. Jim settled into the next two matches with his superior stroke play taking the next 2 9-1, 9-6, however his opponent bounced back in the 4th taking it 9-7. As a result of the lack of fitness Jim was always going to struggle in the 5th game and lost it 5-9.
Tavistock were outright winners taking the match 3 ties to 2 an excellent win away against tough opposition.
