A WOMAN from Okehampton has expressed her concern over the 'terrible' condition a footpath close to her home has become.
Edith Seymour, a resident on Giblands Estate, said she has 'had enough' of the footpath around the residential area as it is constantly covered with dog mess from owners not picking up after their animals.
Mrs Seymour said she contacted West Devon Borough Council last week to speak to a dog warden over the condition of the path.
'The state of the estate footpath is terrible — dog mess is everywhere around the path of Giblands Estate.
'I have relatives here from South Africa and they can't believe the state of it either.
'One day my niece took me out in my wheelchair and it wasn't long until dog mess was all over the wheels.
'I can't see why the council don't do anything about it — I know they cannot do anything to the people doing this until they see them actually doing it, but something needs to be done.'
Alison Stoneham, senior communications officer for West Devon Borough Council, said that after speaking with Mrs Seymour an inspector went to the area and contacted the council's contract cleaners FOCSA straight away.
She said: 'We are very aware of the situation and that there is a problem. I also understand that previously we have issued fixed penalty notices around that area.
'We have arranged for cleaning contractors to clean up that area of the town.'
