THE FISHLEIGH Estate in Hatherleigh has been awarded the runner-up prize of £2,000 in the prestigious Purdey Game and Conservation Awards 2001.
The estate, owned by Ian Sargent and Peter Walters, impressed the judges by how much had been achieved in just four years in terms of improvement and conservation work over this 400-acre farm.
From having no sport at all, the panel said they had succeeded in establishing a small but thriving shoot with some challenging drives, mostly pheasants but with snipe, woodcock and wild duck providing variety and additional excitement.
