AN environmental open day at Burrator Reservoir for school children will be held next Thursday.

Several local schools, including Walkhampton, Buckland Monachorum and Meavy primary schools will take part in activities throughout the day and learn about wildlife in the area.

There will be an opportunity for students to take part in environmental, art and recycling based projects, as well as a craft workshop. Conservation organisations will attend and children will learn about the Dartmoor National Park Rangers and the South West Lakes Trust's Countryside Service.

The day has been organised by South West Lakes Trust.

Education Officer Liz Eagle said: 'This is a tremendous opportunity for the Trust to work closely with local schools to provide environmentally sustainable activities which will give them a better understanding of wildlife.

'At the same time it will give an opportunity for inner city and country children to come together,' she said.

The event will be running from 10am-4pm, and the charity's Trustees invite members of the local community to come along in the afternoon and learn more about the work of the charity.
