POKÉMON Go is the popular new game that has people glued more than ever to their smart phones but Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is asking enthusiasts to take care when playing.
As reported in the national press, the game causes some people to lose their good judgement when on the move as they are not paying attention to what is going on round them.
Marc House, community safety prevention manager, said: ‘Pokémon Go players need to remember to keep their heads up and their eyes open. It’s very easy to be distracted when playing, but people can put themselves at risk when walking along by walking out into traffic, or trip over things on the pavement.’
A few safety tips have been published by the fire and rescue service:
l Know your surroundings and pay attention to where you are going and who is around you.
l Watch where you are going so please don’t look down at your phone while crossing the street, getting off buses, or even while walking.
l Do not drive, ride your bike, skateboard, etc. while playing.
l Stay safe and don’t go onto private property, dark alleys or areas that you usually would not go. A sign still means ‘Keep Out’ even if you think a Pokémon is hiding behind it.
