Kingsbridge Colts 22 Tavistock Colts 14 THE game was tight and both sides scored a converted try in the first half. Kingsbridge scored first when they sent their centre through the midfield to reach the try line. Tavistock soon responded with a midfield interception and a good threes move ending in Mark Webber touching down for Andy Smerdon to convert. Two tries for Kingsbridge opened the second half — the first from a midfield break for the left winger to touch down and the second from a three man lineout when the hooker collected the ball and dashed through a gap unopposed to score. Neither try was converted. Tavistock pulled back a try after a long period in the home side 22 metre area when Tom Friend drove strongly with several forwards adding momentum. Smerdon converted the score. With a shortage of backs, the Tavistock three quarter line included two forwards and this disrupted defensive moves despite plenty of earnest effort. Kingsbridge put the game out of the visitors' reach with a final try after a set scrum was taken against the head for a try down the left wing. The windy conditions and the first hard pitch encountered since before Christmas produced lots of spilled ball and knock-ons from both teams. Tavistock's Shaun Daymond showed hunger for the ball and gained many yards with good carries. His energetic work in the loose contributed to his man of the match award.
