TEAMS from Bridestowe, Milton Abbot, Boasley Cross, Lew Trenchard, Exbourne, Northlew and Lady Modiford’s took part in the inaugural West Devon Small Schools Football Championship at Okehampton College on a rare dry, but cold, day.
Lew Trenchard A took first place with Boasley Cross, Milton Abbot, Bridestowe and Northlew second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Lady Modiford’s led the field on pitch two with goal difference separating Bridestowe A and Exbourne for second and third place. Lew Trenchard B took fourth place.
Lady Modiford’s won the cup, beating Lew Trenchard A in the final match.
On the same day and playing in the same location, the West Devon Netball finals took place.
Teams from Whitchurch, Meavy, Horrabridge, Bere Alston, Okehampton, South Tawton, Hatherleigh and North Tawton were deciding which team was going through to the county finals on March 17. These were the top four teams from the Tavistock and Okehampton heats, played earlier in the school year.
All teams played each other with a team of young sports’ leaders from Okehampton College umpiring under the leadership of Angela Herod-Taylor.
Whitchurch came out on top with 13 points, closely followed by Okehampton on 12. Bere Alston were third with seven points then South Tawton, Meavy, Hatherleigh and Horrabridge all with six points and North Tawton in eighth.
